Unfortunatly with the little terror that is Andrew, holiday posts on location were a definate no no this time.
We did our usual tour around Scotland with a little change to our usual hap hazard way that we go about it.
I booked, in advance, all the camp sites which definatly eased the worry as to whether or not we would have a spot when we turned up at each site this year.
Im sure Steven thinks I’m a little obsessed but I think its organised, I’ll leave you to make up your own mind on that one… answers on a postcard please
.
We were supposed to do 2 nights each at 7 different sites….2 nights at Moffat, then Cashel (loch Lomond), Glen Nevis (Fort william), Aviemore, Blair Castle(Pitlochery),Dunbar and finally Jedburgh.
At Moffat camping and caravanning club it was our first ever visit there and a nice surprise.
Andrew was entertained by the local bit of building going on diggers and all, not as bad as it sounds not when your awake at 6am anyhow, and there was a small garden centre with play area and you could pet some of their resident sheep and cows, always a bonus with children.
Cashel…..hmmmm…a ‘forest site’….. yes there was trees but it wasn’t exactly in the forest, more like next to a forest.
My particular highlight, well I can’t decide whether it was trying to be sold one of their ‘walks’ to see the bats at £6 each, per person not per bat, I think not, I’ll sit by my tent and watch them for free thanks all the same… the amount of midges, I suppose thats Scotland for you but they were pretty relentless at Cashel or the power boats on the loch that the kids were playing in…oh and there was the moment the little boy came screaming through the site after he got a fishing hook stuck through his hand.
Needless to say I don’t think we’ll be going back there, we stayed for just the 1 night and booked an extra night at Fort William instead, still our favourite site.
At Fort William we got to see a helicopter rescue, we walked into town to collect supplies from Lidl, which is always a highlight for Steven… and Andrew was particularly cute making a new friend, running around and sharing his diggers.
Aviemore the storms finally caught up with us n we got soaked walking back from town but its always good to stay there, we had lunch in a pub which in a previous life we would have been steaming but hey ho.
At Blair Castle I caught up with some washing, I do like to check out the facilities when out and about,(it also give me an hour off to read a book) we got up close with the highland coows and we found some ducklings in the nearby burn.
Not my favourite site because you get kinda squeezed next to people you would rather not be squeezed next to and if you do want to nip into town, over 10 miles away, its near impossible with Morris as there’s no place to park so its more of a flying visit.
We did pick up a tractor dvd for Andrew though which has brought us hours of peace so far.
Dunbar is now on our list to revisit, on the coast, a really nice, peaceful, clean and friendly site.
We also went to a local play farm for the day which Andrew loved. Chickens, pigs, sheep tractor and train rides,a jelly belly, (a large bouncy type castle) and a hay barn, and Andrew fed a very cute piglet.
Finally Jedburgh, not a good site, the highlight was the Shell garage just outside the site, oh sorry and the ‘heated’ toilets, these were pointed out to us on arrival as a plus about the site.
Our spot was on the car park next to all the waste disposal spots.
It wasn’t possible for Andrew to get out and play because it was a carpark next to a drop into a river no matter how much the camping and caravanning club like to call it a ‘site’. So Jedburgh won’t be getting revisited anytime soon.
So thats it for now, we loved our holiday and as usual didn’t want to come back, roll on next year, we think we’ve decided to sell Morris, although it does make camping a little easier, needs must and If we’re gonna move anytime soon we’ve gotta get the outgoings down to a minimum, so if anyone wants to purchase a Chausson S3 motorhome get in touch.
Bye for now xxx
