Mmmm….sleeps

Andrew’s 5 weeks old today and thankfully sleeping alot better.

Now we’re going up to bed at 8.30pm, Andrews having his feed which takes around 45 mins to get through, feed, wind and settle etc then he sleeps through ’til 3am, now you might think 8.30pm is particularly early for the average adult but then again he’s up for an hour to an hour and a half for a feed at 3am then wide awake again at 6am and when I say wide awake I mean wide awake… ‘no rest for the wicked’ they say, well I must be really wicked.

Andrews awake after his 6am start til about 1pm, now, numerous nappy changes, windings and please don’t stop bouncing me’s later, mummys ready for another sleep but someones gotta keep us in clean washing and my god, this child doesn’t like to be mucky (just like his daddy) and he doesn’t mind tellling you at the top of his lungs.

Now I’ve always loved my sleep but I’m getting used to this not much sleep stuff, a nights uninterupted sleep wouldn’t go a miss though, but daddy still has sleep issues, he now stays awake ’til 3am downstairs so that we sleep but as soon as he comes up to bed, bumph gone and snore OMG! but still a crying windy child won’t wake him.

Well thats all for now , trouble’s due to wake from his power nap anytime now and I’d better finish off before he does.

(Notice how it’s alot longer between each blog now, oh the joys of being a parent …and we wouldn’t change it for the world :) )

Bye for now

Our friendly local health visitor

We had our local friendly health visitor round last Friday, to introduce herself and give us any ‘help and information’ we need (aka government brain washing).

So how are you feeling after the birth, was it as you expected?,
Well yes general pain and feeling like I was going to split in two and of course the ever present toilet trip flash backs.

Also we were given a red book ‘my personal child health record’ which is ours to keep ’til Andrew is 14 (yes you read it right) and that we can write in but there are some really patronising quesions in there that the health visitor has got to ask us at milestones in Andrews life, for example…

On the 6-8 week review…
Q7 Have you remembered pillows, cusions and plastic bags can suffocate your child?
I’m sorry did i forget that I was really an idiot in disguise.

Q10 Do you use fireguards for fires and heaters in your home?
He’s 6-8 weeks remember, hes not going off trying to warm his toes alone just yet or are babies much more advanced if they are part of the government breeding programme?

Q13 Do you make sure your child is never left alone in a bath or near other water?
Well i was thinking of letting him chill and have a soak whilst I catch up with the house work.

Q115 Do you make sure that you put the tops back on medicines after use and return them to the cupboard?
Er is this just in case he goes rooting for snacks and comes across them when I’m not looking thinking that they’re sweets like crawling babies do when they’re out snacking!

I mean, please???!!!

This book has all these lovely quesions that we have to ‘discuss’ lol… the dog ate my book which shouldn’t be a problem as it is after all ‘our book’ There aint no way that we’re being told how to bring up our baby or what is right and wrong… we know what is right and wrong and it sure aint what is happening out there in the world right now… so… if we’re really bad to him then like all really bad folk we should be killed but until then we will do things our way thank you very much!

Support services = Support … look it up in the dictionary… it’s under S not B for Brainwash, I for Interfere or T for Total-Bollocks.

Bye for now…. S+C=A ~:)

Introducing Andrew Walter…

Hi all

Well its been a while since our last post however we’re very happy to say its all because of a certain little someone!

Andrew Walter Culshaw was born on 22nd April 2007 at 06.55am weighing in at 7lb 11oz.

He’s certainly turned our world upside down, but he is an absolute angel… during the day at least however at night he doesn’t really like to sleep alone.

On an average night we might get around 2 hours sleep and thats going up to bed at around 10.30 after a feed giving up at around 7.30am.

His favourite place is on our chests all curled up but obviously we cant sleep while hes there, so we try and put him in his cot, moses basket or carseat when we’ve been getting desperate, putitng him in with the dogs is plan B ;-)

The thing is, within 10 minutes of putting him down he starts to yell, now weve tried leaving him, comforting him with a dummy, putting our hand in the cot, swaddling him, tucking him in and putting him in a baby grobag, winding him just in case but nothing seems to work.

We also think he has had a bit of colic too, which joyfully plays up in the evening/night time. Colic for those who don’t know turns any baby into a 110dB siren from evening to morning…nice!

At present though he’s lying, blissfully unaware of the chaos he’s causing, fast asleep in his moses basket and has been there for almost an hour and a half.

All this said we wouldn’t change him for the world… he’s a sweetheart.

The funny thing is daddy, for the last 36 years has had a problem sleeping and usually sits up ’til sometime between 3am and 5am (he says all the best telly is on during the night and doesn’t see the point in sleep as it’s a waste). Now this isn’t a a recent thing, his mum says hes always been like this since year dot but… since Andrew was born daddy has come up to bed and come midnight, bang! passes out not to woken by anything not even the screaming Andrew at the side of him… hmmm.

At Andrews last weigh-in less than 2 weeks old he had put on 2ozs which is pretty good going for a newborn baby.

Well, we will try to keep you updated and post regularly in between fog-horn style blasts, smells and such and we will post some more photos soon.

Bye for now…. S+C=A ~:)
